On June 6, 2011, a national bill called Ten Million Solar Roofs was introduced to lower the cost of solar power, and put the US on track to install 10 million solar systems on homes and businesses by 2020. By doing so, hundreds of thousands of good-paying manufacturing and installation jobs will be created, and the US will be able to compete with the strengthening solar markets in China and Europe.

To achieve this goal, each state will have to install 200,000 systems by 2020. Breaking it down, that’s about 22,000 systems per state per year. With 100 counties in NC, each county has to install 220 systems each year. Where are all these new systems going to come from?

Introducing the 100 Rooftops Challenge

100 Rooftops Challenge Sundogs Solutions has put together a pilot program called “The 100 Rooftops Challenge” to get some solar enthusiasm flowing through the local community. Solar systems have come down a long way in cost, and up a long way in aesthetics and practicality. We want to demonstrate that solar is finally ready for prime time, and aid our nation’s effort to install its 10 Million Solar Roofs.

To this end, we are looking for 100 individuals or businesses in the greater Triangle area who are committed to lowering their energy bills and making a positive impact on our environment. There is no cost to signing up for this program. We only ask you to invite us over for a free solar evaluation and to recommend at least one other friend to our program.
Benefits to participants in the challenge:

  • a $50 donation to NC GreenPower, in your name for each solar thermal panel installed on the first 100 rooftops, supporting renewable energy in NC.
  • a $50 donation to NC GreenPower, in your name for every kilowatt installed on the first 100 rooftops, supporting renewable energy in NC.
  • the opportunity to be included in our online “rooftop community”. Not only will your installation be featured, showing your commitment to advancing clean energy, but your system’s production will be tracked and tabulated with other community members. We’ll see monthly how much energy our community produces, and watch carbon emissions be reduced.

You will also be one of the nation’s Ten Million Solar Roofs. You will save money on your energy bills, lower your carbon emissions, and help reduce our nation’s dependence on coal and oil.

Be patriotic. Be green. Save green.
