Solar Pool Heating

Extend the usable time of your pool with cost-effective, environmentally friendly solar pool heating.

Contrary to popular belief, solar pool heating is simple, effective and inexpensive. Think of it as solar thermal technology for your pool. A properly sized system can raise the temperature of your pool water 10 degrees F above ambient temperature. Combined with a pool cover, the temperature can be raised another 10 degrees. This heating is done without burning any fuel or releasing pollution, solely from the power of the sun.

Solar pool heating is the most cost-effective pool heating system available. Most systems will pay for themselves within 2-3 years in the energy savings from not burning fossil fuels. Add on a 35% NC renewable energy tax credit (max. $1400), and you’re well on your way to a fast return on your investment. By using inexpensive panels and your existing pool pump, solar pool heating systems are among the most inexpensive solar systems available.

How It Works

Water is pumped up from your pool into the solar collectors from the filtration system. At the solar collectors, the filtered water is heated before being returned to the pool.

Usually, on a bright sunny day, the water gains about one degree Fahrenheit with each pass through the collectors.

The collectors are made with plastic because it does not react with pool chlorine. The advantage of this is a lighter weight on your rooftop.
